Hi to all. Lets discuss the helmet here. Yeah i know most of u dont like the idea of using one though u own one. Do u remember buying a helmet because your mom or girl friend forced u to ? now that i reminded u, let me tell u where u put it. It is probably in the rear end of the store room or lying dusted behind all the proud trophies and cups u won during your school days. U would do justice to u and your family if it were on your head. God knows if a helmet really helps or not during an accident, but it dosent help your cause if u are not wearing one on that unlucky moment. There will be people who will say u broke your leg because u were not wearing a helmet !!!.  what? Give us a break. Bottom line – no helmet,no sympathy.

WHY TO WEAR HELMET?    1. Safety,  2.prevents dust / insects in eyes, 3. reduces fatigue when driving fast, 5.can go unrecognised along with girlfriend in back seat,  6.can hide your mobile if u talk while driving, to avoid fine by police.

WHY MANY DONT WEAR?  1. Spoils hair with sweat, 2.obstructs complete view, 3. its cool to break rules, 4.difficult to carry when not driving.    REMEDIES-  buy one with air vents on it. while driving, slightly lift it over the head for a few seconds once in a while so that air goes in and dries out the moisture 2.once u get used to wearing helmet, view obstruction will clear out. 3. Its even more cool to save your head  4.buy a chain type helmet lock as it is more comfortable and avoid carrying by hand.

WHICH ONE TO BUY? 1. POPULAR BRANDS are usually more comfortable and last long.definetely  one with ISI mark on it. 2. Helmet made from FIBREGLASS or CARBONFIBRE( costlier) are more sturdy. Cheaper ones are made of polycarbonate plastic. 3. Preferably a full helmet with chinguard and shoulder flaps for fast drivers as it reduces wind sound. 4. one with many air vents  5. one with detachable and washable inner lining. 6.avoid black colored helmets as they are likely to absorb more heat in summer (remember black umbrellas?)     7. Try it on before u buy and select one which is a little tight as the inner lining will compress and loosen after few uses ( like shoes and slippers).  8.buy one with a anti-reflection coat for night driving

TIPS- 1.  Buy a helmet to wear it.  Not to put it on petrol tank. 2.  put on the chin strap so that u wont fly off in one direction and your helmet in another direction on the dooms day 3.buy two wind shields(the front  glass part) one transparent for night driving and a black tinted one for mornings to avoid tanning. 4. Buy a plain colored helmet and do your own stickering on it as it is more fun and cheaper.

Please feel free to add on the topic. Especially regarding racing helmets which are more costlier

hi karthik, vega is a good and branded helmet, which would be sufficient to save your head in case of a mishap. however, whats the point in saving your head and losing your body? u would be called a vegetable then. so avoid 100s and shift to 50-60s. try to feel the pleasures in slow driving too. besides, 100s wont do any good to your bike too. after all its just a pulsar and not a honda cbr or any superbike. what say?

I got one from studds, its wind shield is supposed to be scratch resistant but its got lot of scratches and it wasn't visible in low lights..
you suggested one with Anti glare type, are they available, could you suggest some brands?
Those on coming traffics' lights glare on the wind shield, so I used to use polarized glasses..
Also the Horizontal visible angle is good with out helmet, if I use a helmet I couldn't sense the biker who overtakes me from my behind all o a sudden with his damn ho ho bike..
I know the rear view mirrors are to help in that cause but not in those speeds in city traffic..

I am searching for a helmet fully covered as you suggested, with wide viewing angle and  a air vent  near ears to get sense of whats on my back also, with anti glare visor..
tell me if you find one, ....
oh I can't afford more than 1500 on it.

I got an OGK Full Face Lid.. It's completely protective & meets the standards.. It came with a neck cover as well, that works amazingly in stormy conditions... It's a lil heavy, but the surface of the helmet is rigid..

@knightofdammes: WOW...u suddenly made me realize that riding with helmets can be tuff... Wink
but have never been so troubled with that "Cut-off from the world" feeling...i can generally sense everything around...
about the glare thing...itz a part of night riding...itz either minimized & maximised by situations...

a suggestion:
u can try wearing the Motocross Type helmets...with a large riding glass!! (the MTX helmets generally donot come with visors)..
All ur problems mite be solved...
u'll get a wider view..u'll get all the sounds (noise otherwise Tongue)....and much lesser glares...
a MTX helmet would cost u around 1600!!
