Hi Friends,

I am back from another lovely trip. It was a great experience! Though it is not advised to bike in rainy season that too on hilly and high altitude terrains, but believe me this experience is of its kind.

Trip  : Siliguri -> Kalimpong -> Zuluk -> Rangpo -> Siliguri

Bike : PULSAR 150 CC  (1 Biker + 1 Co.)

Distance Covered : 315 Kms

Recommended Trip  : Siliguri -> Kalimpong  -> Pedong-> Zuluk -> Kubuk -> Nathu-la -> Pedong -> Lava -> Gorubhutan -> Sevoke -> Siliguri

Recommended time : September Last week / October 1st week (for biking)

Day-1  : Siliguri->Teesta ->Kalimpong -> Algarah -> Pedong ->
                                  Reshi ->Rhenock-> Aritar Lake (Lampokhori)

Distance Covered : 130 Kms  +  55 Kms (Local Sight seeing around Kalimpong)

We started on Aug 15 at about 08:00 am from Sevoke road, Siliguri  after filling necessary fuel and gearing up with other necessities required enroute.

It took about 1:40 min to reach Kalimpong despite of land-slides and bad road conditions. We had tea & momo's. As planned we then visited following places in Kalimpong. We prayed weather God's just to keep the sky clear at least during day time and we were not disappointed.(we had rain coat & plastic sheets to help us though)

- Durpin Dhara (Monastery)
- Suicide Point  Grin
- Mangal Dham
- Kali Mandir
- Church
- Dello lake
- Science City
- Durga Mandir / Ganesh Mandir / Hanuman Statue
- Munsong Tourist Resort

We then reached Pedong and visited a Water fall point. In winters if you need to catch a glimpse of Snow covered mountain peaks, this place is ideal. We then headed towards Reshi  on shrinking roads with heavy landslides on most of the road.
We crossed the Reshi River and entered into Sikkim Border. From there we drove for Rhenock and then to Aritar lake where we thought of having a night-halt

The Aritar Lake (Ghati-Tso) is worth visiting. For those interested in spending a night or two in the peaceful environment, trekker's huts, few lodges and a private resort are available. Other attractions are boating, visiting and exploring the lifestyle of villagers and also a visit to the Lingsay Monastery and a Manghim. A short trek in and around Aritar is a thrilling experience. A night spent in an old British built Bungalow of 1895 located half km below the lake could be an enthralling experience.

So, after having an eventful day, we thought its time to have some food and go to sleep.

August 16 :

Got up early, since we were to travel a lot today. We started towards Rongli , there we could see Rongli Dam construction work under progress. We then headed for Lingtam (check post for permits and other checks) -> Padmachen -> Zuluk .We witnessed some high point water falls and beautiful scenes as we were climbing uphill steadily. We were then supposed to head for Kubuk, but got SMS backhome to cancel trip and get back soon. We had planned to reach Nathu-la but there were other plans for us. Our bike got punctured too. Within 45 min. we were done and started downwards with some  disappointment....

We reached Rongli and as we had to get back soon, we took route of Rangpo via Rorthang which again was a mistake , the road and land slides were horrible. We started from Rongli at about 5 pm and reached at about 7:30  pm at Rangpoo. We were on NH-31A. It took us about 2:30 min to reach Siliguri , we took a halt at Loha Pool for 20 min for some momo's and tea.

We reached at about 10:15 pm in Siliguri.

There was some wrong planning. We actually should have directly covered from Siliguri to Zuluk on the first day. On the 2nd day witness Sunrise at Sunpoint, Kubuk and then head towards Jelep-La  followed by Tsongo lake and Nathu-la Pass. While coming down the same day, we could have taken night halt at Aritar lake / Pedong / Kalimpong

Nevertheless, it was an amazing experience of a sort. The reason we chose this time to bike was to avoid snow on the roads because that would cause lot of problems.

Any suggestions / recommendations welcomed.  I hope next time this trip would be a success.

If you plan to have a comfortable trip by car ,
